Embrace brokenness with Kintsugi Counseling, PLLC

Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery utilizing lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold. The term means golden joinery, which refers to the method of restoration. Gold undergoes a purification process to eliminate the impurities thus resulting in its purest form. Making use of gold honors the history of the piece of pottery. There is an element of respect by emphasizing what the piece has endured. It integrates the wounding and scarring of the piece with its new life. Broken objects are often devalued and thus discarded. Kintsugi would argue there is beauty in the brokenness.
Human suffering is inevitable and universal. There is no one who escapes it. How do you respond in the midst of suffering? What if you embraced the pain and grief? And what if you didn't have to do it alone? I believe there can be a redemptive value to our pain.
